Daniel Ricciardo unveils peach of a helmet for 2022 Formula 1 season

It is launch season after all, and Daniel Ricciardo too has gone for a new look with a peach-coloured helmet.

The Aussie is heading into his second season as a McLaren driver, but while we are not set to see the MCL36, which he will contest the 2022 Formula 1 season in, until February 11, Ricciardo has taken to social media to introduce his new helmet for the upcoming campaign.

Ricciardo has gone with a complete shift in the base colour for his 2022 lid, but while peach initially may not seem an obvious choice for a racing helmet, he has pulled it off handsomely!

An iconic feature of the Ricciardo helmet is a meaningful phrase for himself, which this time around is ‘present momentum’.

The eight-time race winner wants to be present in the moment, rather than falling into the easy trap of getting caught up in the future.

The peach will blend nicely into McLaren’s papaya, which is expected to remain for 2022, but of course Ricciardo’s helmet design sports a multitude of colours as always, breaking up the peach with blue, purple, green and some white.

Speaking during his helmet reveal on Instagram, Ricciardo said: “2022 helmet is here. The colour of the year is peach.

“This year it is present momentum [pointing to the phrase on the top of the helmet], and it is really just about being present in the moment. I think it is so easy to get caught up in what lies ahead, you get excited or you’re constantly thinking ‘what’s next?’

“But it is so important to be in the moment, in the now, make those moments beautiful and then it will give you momentum to move forward with purpose.

“So hope you like it, can’t wait for it to hit the track.”

Ricciardo will be hoping to generate some momentum on-track after a tricky opening campaign with McLaren.

Although he did claim a first victory with McLaren at the 2021 Italian Grand Prix, the first-half of the season in particular was a struggle for the 32-year-old as team-mate Lando Norris established early dominance.

The second-half of the season was an improvement, though having finished 45 points behind Norris in the standings, Ricciardo will be hoping to cut, if not eliminate that deficit this time around.
