“They feel a bit different driving in the sim (simulator), but I think it will be different in real life.”
“I think from a driving point of view, the main challenge for all of us will be adapting to these cars,” Vettel told media including RacingNews365.com .
Following the team’s launch of their new car last week, Vettel admits that one of the key challenges of the upcoming campaign will be adapting to the new technical regulations coming into effect in the sport.
Key objectives for 2022 season
With this in mind, the four-time World Champion thinks that it is difficult to set out exactly what the team hope to achieve.
“I think it depends where we are,” he added.
“Ideally, the challenge will be to fight for victories and a lot of podiums, because we are so competitive. But at this point, I don’t have any expectation because, right now, you [can only] look at the car.
“We’ve only seen fakes until today, but you have no idea what is right and what is wrong. So I think we need to relate some lap times and some track experience to it, and then we get a better impression. So I think the goals follow, sort of, where we are.”
Despite the uncertainty over their 2022 prospects, Vettel hopes that Aston Martin can progress and show that they are functioning effectively.
The German explained: “One of the key goals, or one of the key objectives, for this year is to show that we are working, we are a working structure, and we can either build a very good car from the start, or improve our car throughout the season. Or do both!”
